The 2023 Call for Papers has been updated. Planning is coming along well for the conference in Palo Alto and details about venue and accommodations and other matters will be announced here and on the GA-list in the coming weeks. Consider participating!

The Call for Papers for the 2023 GA Summer conference has been released! The conference will take place June 22nd to 24th, in Palo Alto, California, and via Zoom. The theme is “Improbable Futures of the Sacred.”

A new GASC President was elected at our Board meeting on October 11. Congratulations and thanks to Magdalena! Plans were also laid for the 2023 GA Summer Conference, to be held at Palo Alto, California and online. Conference organizers: Andrew Bartlett, Zack Baker and Zenon Mackinnon. Details to follow. At the conclusion of the GASC 2022 conference, the annual business meeting was held. Minutes are now available. Items of interest include discussion of plans for future conferences.

Zenon MacKinnon of the University of Toronto will be presented with the 2022 GASC Student Award for his paper “The Speaking Ape: Agamben’s Anthropological Machine through Generative Anthropology.” The presentation will be made and the paper delivered at Session 6, on Wednesday, June 22.

The program for the 2022 GASC conference is beginning to take shape, as we have received a number of excellent proposals. We would be very happy to receive a few more, however. Our deadline is therefore being extended to May 15. Please submit your proposal to idennis@uottawa.ca.

Even if you do not wish to propose a paper, please consider attending, either in person or online, to hear and take part in the discussions. Conference fees are quite modest, and will permit you to see and speak at all the sessions.

Ontario and University of Ottawa Covid restrictions are being lifted, but so far Canada still requires proof of vaccination for foreign nationals entering the country. The 2022 Conference fee schedule has been announced. For details, see the Conference page.

The GASC 2021 Conference has concluded. Some 40 participants delivered, discussed and listened to 20 papers or presentations over the three days. At the Annual General Meeting the Society offered its heartfelt thanks to Chief Organizer Professor Roman Katsman of Bar-Ilan University and his team for planning and realizing a splendidly successful event. All the sessions were recorded and will soon be posted online. Watch for an e-mail announcement or check this space.

Registration for the 2021 GASC Online conference is now open. To register, please go to our Payments Page and use the PayPal button to pay the conference fee of $CDN 10. You will then receive a confirmation of registration and receipt. You will also be sent a Zoom invitation valid for all sessions shortly before the start of the conference in June. The program will be announced shortly.

The Spring issue of Anthropoetics has been published. Volume XXVI, no. 2 features articles by Yuhui Bao, Ian Dennis, Peter Goldman and Bishop Pierre W. Whalon. Professor Bao and Bishop Whalon are first-time contributors to the journal. http://anthropoetics.ucla.edu/anthro/

The 2021 GASC Conference will charge a nominal registration fee of $CDN 10. The fee may be paid on the Payments page of this site, and a receipt will be issued. Payment of the fee will be considered registration at the conference. The conference organizer will then send you a Zoom invitation link that will allow you to access all the conference sessions.
